The Best of Sabah’s Crafts and Flavours During Sabah Fest 2015

Kota Kinabalu, 30 April 2015 – In conjunction with Sabah Fest 2015, don’t miss a three-day cultural extravaganza showcasing authentic Sabah handicraft and traditional food under one roof at the Kompleks Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara (JKKN) Sabah grounds from 4:00pm to 10:00pm.

Prior to the main stage performance, AGOP, which begins at 8:00pm on all three nights, visitors can enjoy the best Sabah has to offer in terms of crafts, food and souvenirs. In collaboration with various organizations including Pusat Kraftangan Sabah, Kraftangan Malaysia, Kadaiku™- Sabah Souvenirs and Handicrafts. and local artists and craftmakers, the sales and exhibition will see the participation of more than 10 exhibitors proudly showcasing their crafts and fare. Pusat Kraftangan Sabah will be highlighting batik and crafts from Keningau. Also featured are the tapestries of award-winning weaver Hajah Pandian Sulaiman from Kota Belud, Kelarai products by Verolyna Kaya beaded accesories by Fatricia Majin of Keningau and rinago products by Shahfian bin Saidi from Kudat.

Kraftangan Malaysia will also be featuring artisans from Kudat, Kota Belud and Penampang. Visitors can witness live handicraft-making demonstrations by Jamali Matinggal who specialises in gong-making, Indoh Galing (parang-making and rattan products), Tiamin Jilan – a serdang craft-weaver as well as batik canting by Kraftangan Malaysia.

Sample the flavours of Sabah at the various food stalls where visitors will find Bajau Semporna fare such as sagol, kiampau and latoh, the sweet offerings of the Bajau Kota Belud with their kuih penjarama and kuih wajid and the famous hinava, tuhau and hinompuka served by the Kadazan Dusun.

Souvenirs and gifts can be purchased at the Kadaiku™- Sabah Souvenirs and Handicrafts stall locared at the foyer of the JKKN Auditorium, offeirng a wide range of authentic Sabahan crafts and products, including paintings by local artists and handwoven beaded accesories.
