Sabah Fest 2014 Handicraft Demo and Sale in May

Kota Kinabalu, 24 April 2014 – This year, Kadaiku™ is set to showcase the unique art and handicraft of Sabah in conjunction with one of Sabah’s premier events, the much awaited cultural extravaganza – Sabah Fest. The musical performance ‘AKI NABALU’ will be held on the 2nd to 4th of May at the Auditorium of Kompleks Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara Sabah at 8pm. In addition, this three-day event will also highlight Sabah’s culture through traditional music and dance performances of various ethnic groups from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

Kadaiku™ – Sabah Souvenirs and Handicrafts at Sinsuran Complex is proud to bring you talented local craft-makers and artisans under one roof. Swing by Kadaiku™ for Sabah Fest 2014 Handicrafts Demo and Sales and meet weavers, bead makers, musicians and artists from around Sabah from 8:30am to 5:00pm. You can also purchase art pieces and uniquely Sabahan crafts during the exhibition.

 

Details of event:

5 – 8 May        : Kadazandusun Handicraft – Wakid (multipurpose baskets) and Bubu (traditional fish trap) making demo by Rembini Suanti from Kota Belud. Rungus Handicraft – Rinago (multipurpose casings) and beads making demo by Nonjiring Mantuku from Kudat.

 

12 – 15 May    : Murut Handicraft – Murut Kelarai and Takinan making demo by Zaiton Raitom from Keningau. Bajau Handicraft – Serdang (leaf-weaving) and Tudung Duang making demo by Sadi Basal from Kota Belud.

 

19 – 22 May    : Traditional Musical Instruments – Semporing (bamboo saxophone) and Suling (bamboo flute) playing and making demo by Philipus Jani from Tambunan. Also, the Sompoton (bamboo idiophone) and Bungkau (bamboo jaw harp) playing and making demo by George Nuli from Kota Belud.

 

26 – 28 May    : Mini Painting Exhibition by Sabah local artists – Awang Azmi Awang Bakar, Christianne Goonting, Kinabalu Artists and many more.

In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY2014), Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd. is also collaborating with the Malaysian Handicraft Development (Sabah Branch) in organizing the Malaysian Craft Promotion at Lintasan Deasoka from 25 April to 5 May, and Suria Sabah Shopping Mall from 16 May to 1 June.
